First Night
It took us about 10 minutes to get swept up in the atmosphere of Christmas in New York. Jennie, Steve and Hailey took us on a tour of the neighbourhood which included the tree and rink at Rockerfeller Center and Times Square.
Highline
We took an afternoon to walk the Highline - a walkway converted from an old elevated train track that was used to ship food and goods to warehouses along the Hudson River. The walkway is full of sculpture and amazing viewpoints to see the city to the East and water to the West. Even the buildings surrounding the path are new and sculptural or old and historic. We capped the day with some stiff hot chocolates.
Bike Ride Through Central Park
Jennie suggested renting some bicycles and head to Central Park. So the five of us put on our beanies (toques) and we were on our way. This was probably the highlight of the New York trip for me. It was a great way to see the entire park and get some rosy cheeks without getting stuck behind a flatulent horse. You can see from the photos that Jackie's bike was built for speed.
Christmas
Though it was the first Christmas in a long while that we weren't at home, we are thankful that we were able to spend it with family. And how awesome is Hailey? We also were showered with gifts like Lulu Lemon gift cards, wallets and the keys to unlocking Scientology.
Natural History Museum
Be prepared to walk some miles if you visit the Natural History Museum. Also be prepared to step through time.
The Met
Another great way to put some miles on your shoe treads. My highlights were the Carravaggio paintings. Jackie loved the Van Goghs. The Egyptian wing is pretty cool too.
Brooklyn
On our last free day in New York we jumped the C-train down to Brooklyn to see our lovely friend, Addie. Since it was her 'hood, Addie showed us where to get the best hot-chocolates and cookies. We got to see another side of the city as we strolled the seawall near Brooklyn Bridge.
